Long day

Yesterday was most certainly a very long day.  I had just gotten to work when my cell phone started ringing I had already clocked in so I thought ill look at it on my break. A few minutes later it rang again and it was the ring tone I have set for my husband and I thought ok somethings up and answered it. Sure enough the news wasnt good.  Kevin told me that my daughter Tabitha had fallen the night before and broke her wrist and was going to be needing surgery to set it.  My co-worker got me covered so I could go.  I ended up getting to hospital just after they started surgery.  They told me it was going to be 1030 before she went in.  I raced to the hospital got there at 10 and found theyed just taken her back. That they upped her surgery time.  Oooooo this momma wasnt happy.  It was a momma thing wanting to see her before she went in and wanting her to see I was there for her.

Her surgery went well she ended up being in surgery for over two hours.  They put a plate and some screws in it.   I helped get her home and settled afterwards and took my grandson out for dinner.

Grandparents Day!

Zachery is my oldest grandchild!  My sweet lil man!  I just adore this little guy who is very busy and very smart.  But don't all us grandparents think this of all of our grandchildren.  This lil man came to us a little earlier then he should have and this lil guy has not stopped yet!  He goes and goes and goes!  I love him so much.

For the first time since he started school we got the chance to go to a grandparents event.  I was so excited.  We picked him up from home and headed over to the school.  It was fun seeing him in his world with his friends and his teachers.  It was so cute as soon as we walked in the building he took us right to the photo booth where we put on silly glasses an such for a photo of us three.  I can't wait to see how these turn out!

Zachery at his Desk finishing his last page of his book.  I love that he loves to read he was reading diary of a wimpy kid.  He said these are his favorite books right now.

It amazes me how much this lil guy can eat.  He had supper right before we picked him up then he had cookies and punch at school.   After we left we went for a lil snack and he ate a large sandwich and a slice of pie.  Where does this kid pack it all?

LOVE THIS KID!!

Quilts of the Past!

I love quilts!  I love them all!  Old, new, modern, primative, traditional!  I don't really seem to have anyone style that I gravate to more then another but I do love really scrappy ones the best if I did have to choose!  I JUST LOVE QUILTS!  But one of the things I love about quilts is its history!

The below quilts were made by a very special lady.  My Aunt Leah!  She was a big influence to me in a quilty way in fact I think she may have been the very first person I ever saw quilt.  She was a traditional quilter and a scrappy one.  Not only was her style traditional but she hand pieced everyone of there quilts.

Sadly she is no longer with us but she left us some great memories and her legacy of quilts.  Below are a few of her quilts she made that I had the pleasure of seeing and photographing while at Melinda's house last week.  Thank you Aunt Leah for the love you gave and left us!  Thank you Melinda for sharing this wonder gift with me and giving me a chance to touch, see and photograph these!

Notice the flower in the star she added extra batting in there so they will puff up!

the quilt below is one Aunt Leah made and gave my mom!  Mom loved this and the top was not quilted.  I wasnt very good at it but I hand quilted this one using a large lap hoop.  I treasure this for sure.  But I feel like it belongs to melinda so she can pass it on to her grandchildren one day!  So this one is going home to her!  I love you Melinda and I love my Aunt and what she gave of her life for those she loved!

"TIME" #sissy&cousintime

Time is priceless!  Time controls us!  Time is what i need more of!  Time with family, time with friends, time to go on adventures, time to do all the projects of sewing and scrapbooking that I love to do.  But sometimes finding those "times" are very hard to do.  I've learned that in between work and life you just have to stop and make time!   Sometimes its that half hour before bed before you finally get to sit down in you space and sew just a few stitches, or write just a few lines in your scrapbook or load or print out a few pictures that you snapped that day!  They say money changes everything but for me its time I want more of!

Last Monday I had a wonderful time with my sister and cousin!  I took a pto day so I could go along with my sissy (Teresa) to visit our cousin Melinda for the day.  We had a great day we made pumpkin rolls and Teresa found us a great craft project to work on.

I've never made pumpkin rolls before because I thought they looked too hard.   Melinda proved me wrong, she showed us just how easy it was.  These are definitely on my cooking list the holidays this year!

While the pumpkin mix is cooking you prepare your town covering it with powder sugar

While its hot from the oven Melinda shows us just how to flip it out onto the towel

Melinda demonstrates just how to roll, you then sit it aside to cool for about an hour

My sissy gets her pumpkin roll a go!

while the pumpkin cakes are chillin you mix up the yummy creamy filling

Its sooo hard not to want to sneak a bite of that yummy goodness!

Once the pumpkin cake is cool you unroll it and spread on the cream cheese filling

then you roll it back up

and TA DA!!!  You have your first pumpkin roll!  We made 5 of these and I brought two home.  I put one in the freezer but it didn't make it a week before it was brought out and shared with friends.  I've started a list of what all i need to buy to make some more for Thanksgiving!  Might try my hand at a red velvet ones next.

Our craft project of the day was these super fun and cute pumpkins made out of dryer vent hose.

This was a week ago today!  Sure wish we could do it again today!

"Bound" and Determined

Just a quick blog before I leave for work.  I spent my morning putting the binding on my purple passion quilt.  I have one whole side now completed.  I like to machine sew it on tgen turn it over and handbind it down.  I just think it looks better and I enjoy the process.

Well time to run.  Im thinking about changing the name of my vlig to t-times closet     what do you think?

Gettin Quilty

I'm off work today and the past few weeks have been busy.  So I'm determined to be in my studio today and work on some projects.  The only other things on my to do list is take Kevin's bike up to the bike shop to be fixed and then I get to go to my grandson's school tonight for a grandparents thing.  Excited to get to go!

I just finished my first project of the day and I'm very excited about it.  I so have to make more of these and have a bunch of idea's floating in my head..... oh how i wish for more hours in a day!

Here is my first project.  I recently joined a group on face book it is a quilt swap group.  Where we share our work and swap quilt squares, mug rugs, and a new one for me quilted post cards.  I signed up for a quicky one where I only had to swap with two others.  I'd never made one before and thought ooooo i gota get in on this and give it a try.  To say the least I'm now addicted, I love the quick satifation you get from these and how you can just have fun with them.  You will so see more of these soon.  I am even thinking about making some for a craft show coming up to sale.  But we will see like I said with working full time as many do it really limits my time in my studio.

So I thought I'd share with you all my first post card quilt.  It gave me a chance to practice free motion quilting and I love the raw edges showing.  I also printed the fall picture onto the fabric I've always wanted to try that and again it opened up a lot of possibilities.

Its 10:00 am here and I've got lots more I want to do with my day so I'm off to get busy.  Next up try to learn to sew hexies on a machine not just by hand.  Lets see how that goes.  I also have got two quilts that I need to get bound to enter into our quilt show in a few more weeks.

So ta ta for now!
Happy Crafting!

#teetimesclosets

Yes the title is right closets.  My studio use to be in the family room when I started out in there I had one corner.  But then I needed a little more space and took over half of the room at that time I mostly scrapbooked and make cards and occasionally played around with jewelry making.  Then I began to sew again, purses, cloths for my grand kids, and yes for my american girl doll (shhhh you know there's a lil girl in all of us.)  So with sewing my room yet needed to be even bigger and it got to where the family room part of the room was a t.v. and a lazyboy.  My hubby moved to the front room.  Well like like any crafter then area was a mess most of the time.  To the point it was hard to want to have anyone over cause i was embarrassed of my room look like a tornado hit it.  The sad part was my family had our family times like Birthdays, Holidays in the garage.  Now how sad is that?  The below pictures is a sample of what that room looked like and trust me I'm ashamed to say this was a good day.

with this room being attached to the kitchen you can see the issue.  A EYE SORE for sure!!!

So while I was off work for a few weeks my hubby was on vacation and we plotted a "Regain the family room plan"  I loved that room the open windows the space.  My hubby said he thought it would be nice to move my space into the bedrooms we don't use.  At first I wasn't a fan but at same time I was tired of the mess everyone saw.  When I looked at this room I saw a craft room but when I looked at it though someone else eyes I saw a mess.  I had to admit also that it would be nice to have family time in this room and not the garage.

So my hubby set to work making me a space I could work in and he worked all day for about 4 days to do it for me.  He had to move everything his self since i wasn't allowed to lift at the time.  He had me sit in a chair and tell him what I wanted and where I wanted it.  Kevin started out taking the closet doors out and then painting the room a color I would love.   GREEN of course.  I made me some purple curtains.  I wanted "my closet" as I call it to tease Kevin, bright and colorful.  Kevin fixed one room up to be my work room and then other room up for storing my supplies in.  The storage room is called my 401 room.... LOL!

Again I remind you I was going to hate this and really felt like I really was going to be in the closet compared to the space I had before.

My now studio:

And I have to tell you the first time I sat down in here I fell in love with my closet.  Its fun and cozy and a great workspace.  Thank You honey.

My 401 room:  Not sure a good spot for that light yet.

Here is what my old room looks like now.............. a work in progress still but a great start for building family memories in this room.  The couch and two of the lazyboys are what use to be in our living room which now house new furniture.  I still have some work to do in here.

Time to get ready for work................ happy crafting.  Check back later soon I'll post what I've been up to in my closet!!!
